Rupp breaks long standing US record in Fayetteville
Galen Rupp did not win, yet he was the happiest man after the Tyson Invitational indoor meeting in Fayettevile, Arkansas, USA.
Ethiopian Bekana Daba won the men's 5000m in 13:17.89 min, but the most attention was paid to Galen Rupp who broke two prestigious records with his 13:18.12.
He bettered Doug Padilla's 27-year-old US indoor record (13:20.55 in 1982) and the American collegiate record set by Suleiman Nyambui in 1981 (13:20.40).
No wonder he was content after the race: "They're all fun to get," Rupp said of the records. "Any time you break one, they're all special."
In the other events Jennifer Stuczynski (women's PV), Terrence Trammell (men's 60m), Carmelita Jeter (women's 60m) and Reese Hoffa (men's SP) produced the best performances of the meeting.
