Lapierre launches in Perth
World indoor champion Fabrice Lapierre has produced the fifth largest long jump performance under any conditions with a 8.78m wind-assisted jump to win the final Australian championship on his final jump.
Chris Noffke jumped a new personal best of 8.33m (+1.2 m/s).
In other events in the field Steve Hooker cleared 5.80m in the pole vault, missing two attempts at 5.95m and a final attempt at 6.01m, Dani Samuels took out the discus with a throw of 63.61m, Jarrod Bannister threw the javelin to 83.17m, Scott Martin won the shot put in 19.83m and Petrina Price cleared 1.90m in the high jump.
On the track Ryan Gregson took out the most anticipated contest of the championship, the men's 1500m, out kicking world championships semi-finalist Jeff Riseley in a highly tactical race in a time of 3:44.99 to 3:45.15.
