Flash Quotes - Aviva London Grand Prix, London - Day 2
Flash Quotes from the second day of the Aviva London Grand Prix, part of the Samsung Diamond League Series.
Gerd KANTER - Discus Men - 1st:
"I am really happy with the win today because the last few meets I have struggled. I was slow getting going in Barcelona and missed a couple of throws, but today I figured some details out with my technique, and my last few throws were pretty good, so I am pretty satisifed. I am have really enjoyed the diamond league this year because it has meant that I can compete against the top throwers, outside of the major championships, it has been a fascintating season for everyone. There is one more meet next week in Zurich, so hopefully if I can throw one metre futher I have a chance of taking the over title. It is a very nice crowd here, and a good expereince to compete here, it is good to take home good emotions."
Mark LEWIS-FRANCIS - 4x100m Men - winners (Eng A):
"I definitely enjoyed that; I can put the European championships behind me and Ive been able to come to London and fly the flag, its amazing, it's great for the 4 x 100m and it's a new start, new beginning. It's given me confidence for the Commonwealth Games, but it's still a long way away in October so I'll take small steps. Right now my body's in bits so Ill get strong again and see what happens."
Reese HOFFA - Shot Put Men - First place:
"I tend to throw well in Britain - here, Birmingham, Gateshead, whereever. If you´d have me I´d be British tomorrow! I just came out ready today. I´m really happy to get a win and to get back over 21m. The fans here really embrace me. I have so much fun here, they really know a good throw when they see one. I´m looking forward to 2012."
Yargelis SAVIGNE - Triple Jump Women - Winner:
"Very good performance, and very good competition. Im very pleased, thank you very much."
Christian CANTWELL - Shot Put Men - Third:
"I really don´t know what was wrong. I was just being a wus, I guess. I have no excuses, no niggles or anything. It was just a bad day."
Laura SAMUEL - Triple Jump Women - 6th:
"I love competing in front of such a large home crowd, especially as my family and friends can watch me compete. I´d love to be selected for the commonwealth later this year, and certainly in the future I was like to target competitions like the diamond league a lot more."
Marlon DEVONISH - 200m Men - 5th:
"I would have liked to have run a bit quicker, maybe I shouldn't have doubled up, and should have just concentrated on one event. However, it is always fun to run in front of a British crowd. My strategy was to try and work the turn and come hard out of the corner, which unfortunately felt a bit flat, but I have the Commonwealth Games coming up so I just want to see what happens there."
Wallace SPEARMON - 200m Men - 1st:
"I ran a little slower than expected, but it was still a good race considering the wind. Crystal Palace is one of my favourite meets, I love coming to race here, the British crowd are always great. I'm looking forward to 2012 and am possibly going to visit the stadium tomorrow."
Fabiana MURER - Pole Vault Women - Winner:
"It was really good to win here but I expected a better result. 4.60m might have been better for me but I'm happy to win and I'm now looking forward to competing in Zurich next."
Allyson FELIX - 400m Women - 1st:
"It was a tight race and I really had to rely on my endurance. I feel pretty good but it was a little difficult recovering. The time was't great but it wasn't about the time today, it was a great field and I just wanted to execute my race. It was more difficult than yesterday's race, with the conditions as they, so I was happy to pull that one off."
Andreas THORKILDSEN - Javelin Men - Winner:
"We've been lucky with the condidtions today - once you've got dry conditions you can attack your throws more. It was fun all the way today. I appreciate a close competition so much more when you really have to step up, and it's a lot of fun when you can do it. I need to stay consistent and healthy to keep progressing, although I'm not chasing a World Record with all my heart, I'd rather compete
somewhere like Crystal Palace on front of a full crowd where the whole stadium is cheering, this has been great."
Kaliese SPENCER - 400m Hurdles Women - First Place:
"These are really hard conditions for hurdling. I´m really not used to it so I am pleased to get the win. It was hard hurdling today and to get close to my season´s best in these conditions, I can´t complain. I was hoping for a PB today but that wasn´t really possible in the rain. I´ll hope to do better next time."
Eilidh CHILD - 400m Hurdles Women - Third:
"I am really chuffed with a PB today. After Barcelona I was really disappointed because I knew I was in shape to run a PB. I wanted to come out and show it here. There´s definitely more to come."
Mariya SAVINOVA - 800m Women - Winner:
"It was very cold but I was very happy to win with the good competition. There were very many people cheering us, it was good."
Jennifer MEADOWS - 800m Women - Fifth:
"I made an absolute hash of that between 200 to go and 300. I got boxed in and had to do a few steps almost on the spot. I was really annoyed with myself but in the end the time wasn´t bad. I´m obviously in pretty decent shape."
Jemma SIMPSON - 800m Women - Third:
"I seem to be running that sort of time consistently this season. I think I´m building up to quicker times. Once I get more confidence I think I´ll run quicker times all the time. Butthe 800 is hard because every race is so different, you can never tell how it´s going to be run."
Milcah CHEMOS - 3000m Steeplechase Women - Winner:
'I'm really pleased to have topped the although standings in the diamond league this year. Unfortunately, the weather was not good for me, but I was pleased it to get the win."
Ivan UKHOV - High Jump Men - First Place:
"I was pleased with the win today but it was difficult jumping in the rain."
Jeremy WARINER- 400m Men - 1st:
"My last 200 was great, I felt strong coming in and I worked the turn well, but I've got a lot of work to do on my first 200. But overall I am happy. Jermaine came into this meet with the world's fastest time, and I was able to run my race and come out on top. After all of my injury problems I am really pleased with how today went."
Michael BINGHAM - 400m Men - 4th:
"The race itself wasn't great, me and Rooney should of been up there and capitalised. Picking yourself back up after the Euopean Champs is hard. The crowd were awesome today, this is the biggest crowd we've run in front of in a while and I am looking forward to next year."
Carmelita JETER - 100m Women Final - Second Place:
"I was a little surprised to lose but I´ve just come back over to Europe and she had a great run last week so I knew she was in shape. The conditions were a bit awkward but we can´t blame that - when you´re ready to run you´re ready to run. She was definitely ready to run today. But I´ll move on to Zurich and be ready again."
Marshevet MYERS - 100m Women Final - First Place:
"I knew I was in shape after last week but I was concerned about everybody out there. Carmelia has been in great form and to beat her means a lot. It was definitely possible after the heats but I still had to put it together in the race. Every race is different and we all want the win. I´m glad today it was me. I don´t know where I go next. Zurich I hope but I guess I´ll find out shortly."
David OLIVER - 110m Hurdles Men Final - Winner:
"I came out here today to win; I wanted that Diamond League title, that was my number one goal this season when we didn't have a major championship. I wanted to come here and perform to the best of my ability. I've been healthy this year and things are working out and I'm pleased to get a Meeting Record."
Dwight PHILLIPS - Long Jump Men - 1st:
"I'm not happy with the jumps but happy with the victory. I was looking to jump further than I did, but none of us actually jumped very well today. But I was just happy that I was able to win and extend my lead in the Diamond League. It is always fabulous to come and compete here because the crowd are fantastic, they are so energetic and they have a lot of knowledge about the sport.
Andrew TURNER - 110m Hurdles Men Final - Eighth:
"It was disappointing; I thought I got out of the blocks really well but I was linked arms with the guy in the lane next to me and because of that when he hit a hurdle it just knocked me off and I couldn't get back."
Augustine CHOGE - 1 Mile Men - First Place:
"It really means a lot to win this race. It has so much history. I´ve been training for this and I really wanted to get some Diamond Legaue points. I wanted to go from the front today because I knew the others would be strong at the end. I thought they would have a good finish and I didn´t to be left with a gap. When you start behind you can be loeft with too much to do. Next for me is Brussels and the final Diamond League."
Chris TOMLINSON - Long Jump Men - 3rd:
"I am disappionted with 3rd but then it is a World Class Field out there. I was running and taking off well but I wasn't gettting the flight and landing perfect, and without that you cannot beat the likes of Dwight Phillips. I always want to beat the best and I will continue to strive to do so."
