Gregson withdraws from Commonwealth Games

Australia's Commonwealth Games hopes have taken another blow, with national 1500m record holder Ryan Gregson withdrawing from next month's event due to injury.

The 20-year-old national champion, who in July broke Simon Doyle’s Australian 1500m record with a run of 3:31.06 in Monaco, has a stress fracture in his foot and notified Athletics Australia earlier this week of his withdrawal from the team.

“Obviously I'm devastated,” said Gregson in an exclusive interview with Inside Athletics.

“If I had of arrived in Delhi healthy I know I would have done something special. But that’s part of the game, staying healthy.”
