Špotáková crowned Czech athlete of the year for 4th straight year

Barbora Špotáková, the only Czech Republic medal winner at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, won the national federation's annual poll for the fourth time in the row. The world record holder in javelin received 1314 points out of a possible 1320.

Despite injuries – especially troubling was an elbow problem – Špotáková proved once again to be Czech Republic's number one. As a Diamond League ambassador, she went through all seven meetings and took the winner’s trophy. At Barcelona 2010 she was beaten by two German rivals but considering her health difficulties her bronze felt like a gold. It was the 29-year-old's fifth medal in five consecutive major events since the Gothenburg 2006 European Athletics Championships.
