2010 World Cross to be held in Bydgoszcz

The IAAF Council’s spring session was held in Berlin during the week-end.

The main themes were preparations for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Berlin (15 to 23 August) and the IAAF Congress.

The Council also decided on the venue for the 38th IAAF World Cross Country Championships which will be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland on 27 March 2010.

The Council made the following recommendations for decision by the IAAF Congress:

No False Start Rule: A recommendation by the IAAF Technical Committee to introduce a No False Start Rule has been supported by Council.

Increased female representation on IAAF Council: A proposal was made to increase minimum female representation on the 27 member Council from four to six (over 20%).

Authorised Athletes Representatives: The Juridical Committee is finalising a new system to set quality standards with regard to the registration process of Athletes’ Representatives authorised by National Federations to exercise this activity, it is proposed that the IAAF shall introduce criteria and a new procedure for 2010.

Competition Rules and Constitution Changes: Over 100 Competition Rule change proposals and a number of amendments to the IAAF Constitution which will be presented to Congress were considered.

Some information and details concerning IAAF World Athletics Series events have been confirmed, too.

“The main goals of this Council meeting were the preparation of the IAAF Congress and World Championships to take place in this city in August, but also consideration to important changes to our sport – for example a more modern and relevant competition structure for our Championship events but also the one day meetings,” said President Diack.
